The primary goal of fasting is to strengthen our faith and consciousness of Allah Almighty. Fasting reminds us that we are obedient to Allah (SWT) and protects us from doing things that would anger Him.
Ramadan fosters a sense of giving and generosity. Donating Zakat charity for greater rewards during this month benefits the needy and brings spiritual blessings in return.
Ramadan marks the best night of the year, and it is known as Laylat al-Qadr. The first verse of the Quran was revealed on this night. Muslims are urged to seek out the blessings of Laylat al-Qadr during the last ten nights of Ramadan because there is no specific date for it.
Muslims follow a lunar calendar, which is based on the phases of the moon, whose 12 months add up to almost 354 days. This calendar is 11 days shorter than the 365 days of the Gregorian calendar. So, that's why the dates of the Islamic month, Ramadan, move backwards by about 11 days each year.
